Hoon Thien How and Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif crash out in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
Malaysia’s Hoon Thien How and Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif failed to deliver and lost their first-round match to Indonesia’s Bona Septano and Mohammad Ahsan in the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, at Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 22.
The World Number 28 Malaysian pair failed to tackle the pressure of the local opponents and their home crowd support. Thien How – Mohd Zakry lost a straight-set match which lasted just 34 minutes, to the impressive Indonesians.
Rexy Mainaky, the Malaysian national coach for doubles, lamented the performance of the Malaysian duo by saying, “They got off to a terribly slow start and committed a lot of unforced errors, in particular Zakry. By the time they recovered from their bad
start, their opponents were already far ahead.”
The Malaysian pair got their strategy all wrong against the agile Indonesians, Septano – Ahsan, and lost the match with a 15-21 and 17-21 scoreline.
However, Mainaky is optimistic that the Malaysian pair will perform well in the Badminton World Championships 2011, starting from August 8, at London.
Mainaky said, “This is a Super Series Premier event and all the top players are competing. It’s just bad luck that they drew the home pair in the first round. There is still room for improvement though and I’m confident they will perform better in the World
Championships.”
The hopes of Thien How – Mohd Zakry to performance well in the Premier Super Series tournament came crashing down as the higher ranked Indonesian’s completely dominated them in the match.
Right from the initial points of the opening set of the match, the Indonesians controlled the game by playing superb badminton and maintained their hold on the whole set. The Malaysians made many unforced errors indicating that they played without any planning
and lost the first game easily.
In the second game, Thien How – Mohd Zakry tried to catch up the Indonesians in the first half, but failed to meet the speed and control of their local opponents, who grabbed the second set and won the match in straight games.
