Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong to play together at upcoming tournaments – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles shuttlers, Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong are set to play together as partners in all upcoming tournaments at international level. The duo is determined to secure a higher position in the Men’s Doubles world rankings.
In 2008, Thien How and Wee Kiong played together for a few months but the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) separated them to team-up with new partners. Wee Kiong has been playing with Mak Hee Chun, while Thien How was the partner of Mohd Zakry Abdul
Latif.
The bad run of Wee Kiong and Hee Chun at the 2010 Asian Games in China forced coaches to team the shuttlers with new partners, as they were not playing with good co-ordination. On the other hand, Thien How was looking for a partner as Mohd Zakry resigned
from the national squad and is now an independent shuttler.
The newly appointed Doubles head coach, Tan Kim Her re-united Thien How and Wee Kiong to represent Malaysia at international level. Now, the duo will participate in the Men’s Doubles category at the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which will start
in Denmark from October 18.
Wee Kiong said, “It is good that I have a partner now. I hope to make it work with Thien How. We were together for a few months in 2008 before we were split up. This time, we hope that we will be able to stick together longer.”
Kiong added that he will play under the guidance of Thien How, who is a competent and experienced shuttler. The 24-year-old Thien How is also determined to play better badminton at upcoming tournaments with Wee Kiong. However, he also said that it will take
a little time to produce results at international level.
Thien How said, “I am looking forward to playing competitive badminton with Wee Kiong. Sure it will take some time for us to get started all over again but I am ready to give it another shot.”
Both shuttlers are quite competent and are expected to perform well in all upcoming events at international stage.
