Hoon Thien How wants to stop first round jinx at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles shuttler, Hoon Thien How, has been suffering with a shocking first-round exit jinx with his partner, Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, in eight international tournaments for the last one year. However, Hoon Thien is now passionate to stop
the first-round mishaps at the 2011 World Championships, which is starting today at the Wembley Arena in London.
The continuous bad performance of both shuttlers damaged their confidence and they struggled to find momentum in their previous matches. Now, they have got a chance to get rid of the bad patch by playing to their full potential in the Men’s Doubles first
round of the world meet, where they will face Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan of USA.
Hoon Thien said, “I do not want to lose in the early round with Zakry anymore – especially at this world meet.”
While talking about their first round opponents, Hoon Thien said, “I have played against Tony when he used to play with Candra under the Indonesia banner. But I have not played against him with Bach and it will be quite interesting.”
World Number 25 in the international rankings, Hoon Thien and Mohd Zakry are determined to perform well as both shuttlers have worked really hard in training sessions for ten days at the University of Bath, before moving to London for participating at the
event.
Their challengers, Gunawan and Bach have already clinched the Men’s Doubles title at the 2005 World Championships. They stunned everyone by winning the crown in the presence of the top-class shuttlers from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Korea.
If Hoon Thien and Mohd Zakry pass the opening-round hurdle, then they will be up against Lee Sheng Mu and Chieh Min Lee of Taiwan in the Men’s Singles second round of the World Championships. The Malaysian shuttlers have the psychological advantage over
the Taiwanese pair, as they won against the same shuttlers in opening round of the 2011 All England Premier Super Series.
A good performance in the mega event can put Hoon Thien and Mohd Zakry on the right track and it will also help them in earning points to secure a place for the 2012 London Olympics.
