Hoover Handle Release Pedal Replacement--How is it...

Sir,

I have a hoover u6634-900. Momma broke the handle release pedal, so it flops and is very hard to use. I found a replacement part on the internet, but cannot figure out how to get the cover off and/or get to the section where I can replace the part. Additionally, I bought the idler arm lock because the name made it sound like it should be replaced...but I don't know if that is necessary.
