I have a 12-cup coffee maker and I put three scoops of coffee grounds for 12 cups (2 scoops for 8 cups....1 scoop for 4 cups).  I mainly use Maxwell House or Folgers.

Coffee from Hawaii is the best! I have learned that coffee brewing is a matter of personal taste. What I do is guesstimate at first, according to the package instructions, and use my own measuring scoop. Next batch I add more or less coffee to taste. You didn't mention whether you are using whole bean or ground coffee. I have a coffeemaker that does the grinding prior to brewing, which is so helpful. Also, it is best to put the beans/ground coffee in just before brewing for a much richer taste.  I store my coffee in the freezer for a fresher brew. If you are talking about Instant coffee, I don't do instant... sorry!

It depends on what type of coffee you want and what type of container or brewer you have. You have instant coffee, heat up hot water put in a teaspoons worth of coffee, stir then taste and put in more if it's not strong enough for you. Then you have one/two cup coffee makers you put coffee into a filter that is usually already provided, the cups are a bit bigger on this so use a heaping spoon of regular coffee, or use the small cup that is in the can of coffee. Then you have automatic drip coffee makers. etc...
