Hope Solo world female soccer player of the year 2008?

I would agree with that, she had a great game against Brazil in the gold medal game just to show how great she is.

I think she should, however I may be just a tad biased.

However, I feel her only REAL competition/threat would be Marta, but I don't think Marta should be awarded this honor.

For those who do say Marta should be given this...didn't we see Marta 1 on 1 with Hope Solo in the gold medal match of the Olympics?

Hope Solo did.  

Marta was about 5 yards from the net and blasted the ball.  Thanks to Solo's lightning quick reflexes, she got her right hand on it enough to deflect it.

Had Marta scored, the US would have most likely lost-considering their only goal (and eventual game winner) was scored by Carli Lloyd 6 minutes into the first overtime.

Anyway, I think of it this way: Marta has yet to score on Hope Solo, and that is not due to a lack of opportunity.  Since Solo has stopped Marta on several occasions, she should be considered the better player logically.

I guess we will find out eventually, but I would agree with you 100%.

I think it would be awesome if she was the female soccer player of the year, especially since goalkeepers are usually so unappreciated.  She's definitely got a good shot after that amazing gold-medal match against Brazil.  If someone else had been in goal, the U.S. would've lost, no doubt about it.
