I have principal insurance and medicaid as a second insurance which my principal will terminate on the 31st but I won't get the termination letter for 3 weeks. I will have the new insurance effective april first but wont have the card for 2 weeks, and medicaid will still be a secondary insurance. So, will medicaid still pay for the extra of the bills if they don't get the termination paper from the first insurance before I start using the NEW insurance?

  1. Yes they should pay off of the primary insurance's EOB as long as you remain qualified for Medicaid.

  2. Not in my state, they will need a termination info from you old carrier and need your current carriers info.  They may not require a letter they may just need you to call them and give them the updated info.  Each states Medicaid policies are different so I would encourage you to contact them and ask them what they require.

If at first they do deny the claims one the info is updated they should go back and reprocess your claims.

  3. If your Medicaid is expiring too, they won't pay anything.  If they do pay claims, they will garnish that money back.  Typically it comes out of a tax return, but they can garnish your wages or bank account if they get a judgement.

But they should pay all bills for service occuring during the dates you were covered, no matter when they are recieved.

  4. The old insurance won't cover anything after your temination date with them. It doesn't matter if you don't get the card for the new carrier-you are still eligible and your doctor can verify that without a card. You may even be able to print a temporary card off the new insurance's website.

IF something happens and there is a gap in coverage of your primary insurances, medicaid will cover you...
