Hopes high for the Bahrain Grand Prix once again – Formula 1 Update
It has been revealed that Bahrain’s royal family is still hopeful that the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile will come up with a new date for the Bahrain Grand Prix later in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Because of safety issues, at first it was revealed that the Bahrain Grand Prix had been cancelled. It was recently revealed that the FIA might postpone the Bahrain Grand Prix after announcing that the race in Bahrain as the season opener for the Formula
1 season will not take place due to the current political unrest in the country.
The Formula 1 season was expected to host 20 races for the first time in a single season in the history of the sport and until the Bahrain Grand Prix has been rescheduled, it seems that this dream of Bernie Ecclestone and most of the Formula 1 fans will
not come to life.
It is believed that the current schedule for the Formula 1 season is quite crammed and it will not be possible to accommodate the race, but the organizers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix recently stated that they will not mind if the FIA decides to keep the
Bahrain Grand Prix as the final race of the season instead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“We are hoping [the protests] will subside and the race will continue at a later date and we will carry [the bookings] forward to a later date,” according to Sunil de Souza, regional travel manager for the region including the United Arab Emirates, said
travellers are hopeful the grand prix will be rescheduled.
According to Norbert Haug, it will not be a good idea and since the situation in Bahrain is quite unpredictable and uncertain, the FIA will obviously have to wait before giving its final verdict about the event.
“Finding the right gap in the firmly subscribed calendar is going to be a very difficult task. I don't think it's feasible. One must think first and foremost about the staff,” Haug said.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is now expected to begin on the 27th of March in Australia. It will be interesting to see how each team performs at the season opener, as the conditions in Australia are quite different to those in Bahrain.
However, one has to wonder that since the FIA delayed the 2011 Formula 1 season for two weeks, it may create problems for the teams. The logistical aspects of delaying the season for any sort of reason can have a serious financial impact on the team and
their subsequent sponsors. It is obviously up to the FIA to handle this situation and since they know what is best for the sport, they would definitely come up with the best possible solution for this problem.
