Hopes of a Regular Season revived with Secret Meetings -NHL Lockout Update
All seemed to have been lost after the National Hockey League (NHL) cancelled the much anticipated 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic earlier this month, but after a couple of secret meetings over the weekend at an undisclosed location, hopes have once
again been revived that fans may be able to see the puck drop sometime soon.
A lot of players have already taken off to play in foreign leagues around different parts of the world, but many still remain, glued to their telephones and television screens in order to keep up with every moment and are dying to hear that the lockout has
finally come to an end.
"We had a series of meetings over the course of the day and had a good, frank discussion on the most important issues separating us," NHL Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daly told the Associated Press in an e-mail Sunday morning. "We plan to meet again early in
the week."
Surprisingly, an answer by special counsel to the Players’ Association, Steve Fehr, also showed some hope after the under the radar meetings, signalling that there is definitely something positive to come out of this all.
"I agree with what Bill said. Hopefully we can continue the dialogue, expand the group, and make steady progress," Fehr said Sunday in a statement.
It was the first time since mid-October that both sides had gotten back face-to-face and it finally seems like now that fans can get back to the hockey action, but putting too much hope on it is also something a lot of players are warning about. One of them
is namely Sidney Crosby, who may even miss the upcoming meeting for Tuesday, and terms it to be nothing special since they do not see anything coming out of a 24 hour meeting day.
In a sense, he is speaking in a logical way as it has already been eight-plus weeks and focusing on just one day without any details on what went down on Saturday and Sunday morning would be outright wrong.
Interesting is the right word to use when talking about what should be going on in the next couple of days as the next 24-48 hours are extremely crucial.
