  1. Hopkins has NEVER really wanted a rematch - all you have to do is look at what Hopkins has done in his career.  People can always argue the money issue, but just look at it, the big push for the rematch took place while Roy was at 175-Hopkins bitched about two things 1. a 50-50 spilt, and 2. a "catchweight":

    1. Hopkins made much less money for other fights around that time; and

    2. the moment Roy slipped and relinquished his light heavyweight title, Hopkins decides NOW he should move up to take on a lightheavyweight.

Anyone who followed the sport when this rematch would have meant something, knows that nobody (outside of Hopkins family) actually thought he could win.  Now the argument is being perpetuated by Hopkins fans, who are essentially just Roy critics.

  2. WO!!! AngelSteps you say Jones avoided everyone??? I cant remember any point in his career he ducked anybody, The man went from Middleweight and dominated James Toney, Toney is still fighting and hasn’t been dominated like that since then.  Jones beat everyone at Middleweight even "SCHOOLED" Hopkins with a broken right hand, fought all his mandatory’s then jumped up two weight classes and dominated the light heavy division. He even fought awkwardly tall very skilled Antonio Tarver who was a giant in the division and beat him.

Then he jumped up to heavyweight and embarrassed John Ruiz who gives most heavyweights a tough awkward fight. And even though it was a hard fight for Roy, he still went back and fought Tarver again, even though everyone told him dropping the weight would hurt him. Because Antonio Tarver kept calling him out, he dropped the weight and went back to fight Tarver again and got unfortunate enough to get hit with that huge shot and mentally hes never recovered from it.  You could see in the fight that Roys legs hadn't and still havn't returned to him since comming back from Heavyweight, Jones fucked around with his weight gain going up and down and fucked himself. But he still has a couple years left to grab some glory.

But he did jump back in the ring and give it another shot, and it appeared that he could easily beat Tarver but decided not too.

Not to mention the way he came back from a DQ and destroyed  Montell Griffen. Roy Jones beat guys like Virgil Hill,Richard Hall, Eric Harding, Clinton woods so easily that people said they were bums, then they went on to have successful careers and some won titles.

NEVER! say Jones ducked anybody because its an insult to one of the few guys (Holyfield included) that fought anybody, anytime.

Styles make fights and even though Roy might not be Super Roy anymore, he would still beat Hopkins by points. Hopkins knows this and for that reason he has been pricing himself out of a Jones fight since Roy first beat him.

Hopkins hand picks his opponents, he doesn’t like to take unnecessary risks. He picks guys that he knows fits hit style perfectly. Sluggers and aggressors with good punches but limited boxing skills. Hopkins avoids Slick style boxers like the plague. If he didnt have to fight Taylor he wouldnt have.

Hopkins is a counter puncher and trys to avoid guys that are faster then he is.

  3. Is anyone going to mention the Trinidad / RJJ fight?

The fact that Trinidad looked "good" against Jones should let you now just how far RJJ has fallen.

This is all a moot point.......  Somewhere in a retirement home Holmes and Forman are still at it.

How these guys feel about each other is irrelevant unless you are interested in the current  Geritol tour occurring in boxing.

The only thing Hopkins is likely afraid of is that people will judge him based on a middleweight division that had a ruler prior to him...the prime RJJ.  RJJ cleaned up the division before Hopkins moved in and to boot put him in his place.

  4. This answer can go both ways.  I personally don't think that either man is afraid of the other, I just think that they both want more money than the other.  For years, after he lost to Jones, Hopkins would keep on calling Roy out, and he stated that he would move up to a catchweight to fight a rematch with Roy.  However, he also stated that if he were to move up, he would have to get a substantial amount of money because at that time, Hopkins was the king of the middleweight division.  Jones stated that he would move down to a catchweight to fight a rematch with Hopkins, but stated that he had to get the lion's share of the money because he was always the bigger name and was the king of the light heavyweight division.  They never really had a big problem with the weight, but they could never agree on the money.  Its up for you to decide who was right- if you're a Jones fan, then you'll agree with him because he was the bigger name, but if you're a Hopkins fan, you'll agree with him because he was risking more by moving up in weight when he was already the king of the middleweights.  If Hopkins beats Joe Calzaghe (no small task), then I think that we will finally see the rematch with Jones.  Once again, they will have to agree on the money, but I think that the situations have flipped- Hopkins is now the champ at light heavyweight and Jones is looking to recapture his glory.  Regardless of who you are a fan of, you have to admit that Hopkins has a bit more leverage now even though Jones is arguably still the bigger name.  I think Jones will fight the winner of Hopkins-Calzaghe, and if Hopkins is the winner, then we will finally see the rematch that has eluded us for so many years.

  5. Hopkins is 43 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many more fights do you want him to fight???? I believe Hopkins would beat him now. Even at his age. Roy avoided everyone for a long time and now he is just searching for a big money fight these days. Hopkins can still fight Roy is washed up.

  6. Nonesense .... Hopkins afraid of Jones lol I think not , at least Angel knows what shes talking about here. I also do believe jones avoided some fights. Off hand I dont remember what fighters he did but I know he has in the past. Jones has accomplished a lot and i give him a lot of credit but if anyone was cherry picking opponents it was Jones not Hopkins by any means to accuse Hopkins of that is an outrage. Hopkins looked for tough fights I mean the man fought every single fighter out there , he has more big names on his resume than pretty much any other fighter out there. He even fought winky cmon now nobody wants to fight winky. When Jones moved up to Heavy it was just to win a belt off an average fighter than drop back down in weight , he knew he couldnt beat any real legimate heavy weights. Hopkins did want his rematch with jones but Hopkins likes to do things his way only , thats why he missed out on his big pay days till late in his carear. Jones is way too greedy and wanted too much of the money for the fight to happen and they were never able to agree on the split. Hopkins is afraid of nobody why do you think he fought taylor twice when he was on top? Why is he taking a calzaghe fight now then? Calzaghe is a much bigger threat than a current roy jones. Calzaghe or Hopkins would absolutely murder a "current" roy jones. Jones is so washed up now it is not even funny, Yes Jones beat Hopkins like13 years ago , remember Hopkins got a late start on his carear due to prison time and what not. So when they first fought jones already had peaked and hopkins was just starting to get good. No excuses though B-hop got beat. Jones currently dont have anything left he was able to look decent against tito and beat him but thats only because #1 tito had huge lay off and #2 look at the size difference tito never fought at that weight he was way too small to be able to even hurt jones let alone beat him. Hopkins always says this is gonna be his last fight but if he beats Calzaghe and looks good doing it maybe we see him again , he loves money and if the price is right he would fight anyone so who knows he may fight again after and would love to see him have a rematch with jones to avenge one of his few losses. He defintly will get the bigger paycheck now if they do fight.
