Question:

Hopkins or Calzaghe - whos more overrrated?

After watching HBO's countdown you would think that these two are the greatest of their generation. Hopkins now considered one of the top 2 or 3 middleweights ever, Calzaghe proclaimed as the greatest super-middleweight of all-time.

So which account is more grossly exaggerated?

  1. Neither one.  They are both legends and deservedly so.  Saturday nights fight should be interesting.  Joe figures to take the fight to the supremely talented Bernard.  We will see how much BHop has in his tank thats for sure.  I am picking Joe by narrow 12 rd decision.

  2. you talk sh*t, no one could be champ for 10 years and be overrated. in boxing all you can do is win and they,ve both done that irrespective of who they fought. they have both faced very good opponents and came through it.

  3. Calzaghe is a little more overrated than Hopkins but he's still good enough to beat anyone's @$$ in the division.  He's not the god people make him out to be.   HIs appeal is that he's British, white and can actually FIGHT very well,  something people mistakenly think Europeans can't do well.  Joe has made liars of many.

Hopkins has already made is mark.  Calzaghe is overdue to make his.  He has silenced many critics and I, for one, was glad he beat Jeff Lacey.   I just dont like a fighter who refuses to give credit to another just because of his dumb perception.  Jeff was another who thought  "this British whiteboy cant fight".

A fighter who has accomplished as much as Calzaghe has deserves at least the respect of being a decent fighter.  Jeff was SO SURE he would just run over this whiteboy.  I dont get into color or race but I just don't like it when a professional fighter enters the ring with that assumption.

Jeff lost that fight for the same reason Tyson lost to Holyfield.  He believed in only one thing (the trash his homeboys kept telling him, that Evander was washed up).  Tyson was STUCK on this belief and, by the time he realized Evander was NOT going to fold it was MUCH too late.

Jeff kept that "white British non-fighter" belief stuck in his mind.  By the time he realized Joe would not fold he was WELL into taking the much deserved @$$ whipping of his life.  Lacey will never be the same.

  4. well lets think about it you moron they both were champions for over 10 years they both beat the best of the best.um uh no they are not overrated.they are the best at middleweight

  5. Hopkins has defeated many boxers in the middleweight division he has never ducked anyone his most glorified fight was when he beat Tito Trinidad who was a great boxer in his day who was moving up from 154 to 160 and had some great fights. Hopkins then went on to fight at the light heavy weight division beating Antonio Tarver. I believe that Hopkins even beat Jermain Taylor which Hopkins was given the loss. Hopkins even beat Winky Wright who is also a great boxer so i wouldn't say Hopkins is overrated he is at the top of the pound for pound rankings for a reason he was champion for a long time and had over 15 sucessful title defenses.

  6. hokins now is

  7. LOL are you serious neither one of the guys are overrated their both Great boxers.

  8. Calzaghe is more overrated. You can catch the big fight live and exclusive on livetvnetwork.net for only $2.50

  9. You're an IDIOT! I bet you think Hagler is great, huh (not that he isn't)? But I'm about to reveal the hypocrite in you. What's on Hagler's resume? Oh lets see, a lost to SRL (a natural 147 pounder). At least Hopkins didn't let a former great WW move up & beat him. Then he (Hagler) has wins over Duran & Hearns (both are natural 147 pounders). 13 Consecutive wins at Middleweight (Hopkins have 20).

Anyways, why does Hagler get praised for beating former Welter Weights (Hearns & Duran) but Hopkins gets critisized? And what makes matters worst is that Hagler lost to one (Sugar Ray Leonard) of the former Welter Weights. Lol At least B-Hop KO'd the great former WWs he faced. (Tito & Oscar).

    BTW,

    Bernard Hopkins:

    1. 20 Successful Title Defenses of the Middleweight (160 lbs.) Crown (the record).

    2. KO'd Oscar De La Hoya - The first & only man to do so and Oscar was apart of the 20 Defenses.

    3. KO's Felix 'Tito' Trinidad - The first & only man to do so and Tito was apart of the 20 Defenses.

    4. Beat Antonio Tarver - Tarver is a man that KO'd the great Rpy Jones Jr & also beat Roy by descision. You yourself admitted that Roy was real. So if Tarver beat Roy then Tarver is the TRUTH & B-Hop DESTROYED Tarver (a MUCH bigger guy then B-Hop).

    5. Beat Ronald 'Winky' Wright -  This man is any boxers NIGHTMARE! Every fighter (including Mayweather) in the world has DUCKED Wright. Why? Because Wright has a style that's almost UNBEATABLE! But B-Hop went in there and unsolved the puzzle and showed everyone how to beat Wright. Note: Wright has beaten Mosley twice, has beaten Tito, drawed with Taylor (which I think he really won).

    6. B-Hop has NEVER been KO'd!

    7. 2 Losses to Taylor. Questionable? Anybody who has watched that fight with an unbias eye will tell you that the fights went either way. You can't fault Hopkins skills as a fighter because the judges favored Taylor.

    8. Lost to Roy Jones - Hopkins was very green & lacked experience at the time. Haven't you heard of a fighter taking a fight to soon? If Roy would of beat Hopkins around the time Hopkins beat Trinidad then I'll credit Roy!

You say OVERRATED? You mean UNDERRATED!
