ranarene what are you talking about ?

calzaghe has beaten hopkins, lacy, brewer, mitchell, manfredo all of these are american and hopkins wasnt just a 40 somthing ex champ he was the rings light heavy champ and number 5 in the pound for pound rating . your stupid rugby story is in no way the same as joe calzaghes boxing record he has been world champ for 10 years and fought fighters from all over the world the only thing is he thought most of them in his own country. and how you can say his record is less meaningfull than a decent 18-0 fighters just shows why you should stick to playing rugby with your fat mates

  1. it was said leading up to the fight that if joe beat b-hop, the critics would be sharpening their knives saying that he was just beating up a fortysomething,

no one is discrediting joe, his lack of serious competition is not his fault, but hopkins and jones jr are long past their primes, but these fights are joe's retirement fund.

  2. Did you know that I am the greatest Rugby player that has ever lived in Puerto Rico?? Yes. My team has gone undefeated for the last 20 years! I hold all the scoring records and have never missed a match.  You think I am the best rugby player in the world?

Sadly for me, the answer is NO.

Same goes for Calzaghe. He can have a 100-0 record with 80+ KO's. But if the only American(continent, not country) that he's beaten is a great ex champ who's 40 years old, then that record simply is not worth much in comparison with any good 18-0 young fighter that's mixing it up with the best in the world day in, day out.

  3. Calzaghe? the guy that was literally SLAPPING Hopkins right? LOL, his little slaps, was funny, i don't even know how he's undefeated lol... and you can't say he wasn't cuz you can see it on replay, just slapping away.... he won't hurt anyone like that... peace

  4. Calzaghe should get full credit for beating Hopkins, just don't go around comparing him to Ray Robinson and stuff. Keep him in perspective.

  5. Because a lot of people on here don't make up the pound for pound rankings.  Hopkins hasn't been a pound for pound guy since he lost to Taylor.  And, the fact is, he wasn't above 6 during the bulk of his reign as middleweight champion.  It was only after he beat Tito that he vault up around the top of the "pound for pound" (ironic use of the term in the Tito v. BHop setting) rankings.

Its not discrediting, someone on here said something about perspective, and that is dead on, its a combination of watching a guy fight and perspective, Calzaghe and Hopkins fans really need some of that when they start reading out stats from boxing encyclopedias.

  6. Their fight proved one thing......an hour before the fight, Hopkins was probably overated & Calzaghe was probably underated

  7. You can't say anything it is just bitter grapes.  Hopkins is a legit top P4P fighter.  So is Calzaghe.  Hopkins knows how to fight to fit his age just like Moorer and Foreman knew how to adapt.

  8. Nobody's discrediting Calzaghe, they are simply acknowledging that a 23 year old doesn't fight the same way a 43 year old does.

  9. Calzaghe fought some good fighters in his career but none of them besides hopkins could qualify as all time great, kessler and lacy were good, but at the time there was much better competition for him around, he could have faced roy jones and hopkins years ago, he could have stepped out of wales to come here in the states and clear the division,he could have at least called all these guys out while he was in wales, but he never did, he fought hopkins when hopkins was 43 and regardless of what you say a 43 year old hopkins is not the same as a 30 year old hopkins, if he wants to be respected and viewed as an all time great he should face young prime fighters like Kelly Pavlik or Chad Dawson, that would earn him the respect that he seeks, but fighting an old Hopkins and a washed up Roy Jones isn't going to do much for him.

  10. Hopkins is a good fighter don`t get me wrong but all he did was hold and hold ,yeah he got a flash knock down but what did he do after that look he is getting to old why keep fighting and at the end of the fight all he did was cry and say oh the fans know who won this fight i don`t care about the judges...hello wake up call the fans say you LOST you sore looser. I can`t stand him for that c**p give the other man credit take your loss like a man you bum
