Horacio Agulla joins Bath Rugby – Rugby News Update
Horacio Agulla, the 27-year-old Argentina winger has switched to Bath Rugby, becoming direct of rugby, Gary Gold's first signing.
"We're really excited to have Horacio join Bath Rugby for the new season and are looking forward to him getting stuck into training with the rest of the squad," Gold said. "He's a very good player who is able to play two positions at a high level which brings
great diversity and strength in depth to the team.”
Agulla was playing for the Leicester Tigers last year, who ended up losing the Aviva Premiership final last season to the Harlequins. Agulla was an important part of the squad that had a great second half of the season, but his international commitments
mean that the winger will only be available for over half a season.
Argentina is expected to play autumn internationals and the Rugby Championship, which effectively means that Agulla will be on national duty. The Tigers stated that salary cap limitations were behind the player's release, but it is not hard to understand
other factors. However, Bath will see him as a valuable addition to the squad, and with further changes in the backroom staff, Gold is trying to put together a team that can compete in the Premiership.
Gold also said about the player, "We believe his exposure playing for Argentina in the new Rugby Championship format against the All Blacks, South Africa and Australia will further develop him as a player and Bath Rugby can only benefit from that."
The player is excited with the move as well, and while writing on twitter, he expressed that he was happy joining a big club, with excellent coaches and players. The Argentine has to wait for his work permit, and is eyeing a position in the starting XV.
The winger made his debut against Samoa at Buenos Aires, on December 3, 2005. He has played 34 internationals for his country, starting 30 games while coming on as a substitute a further 4 times.
