Horacio Zeballos downs Mischa Zverev in second round – Sparkassen Open 2011 CH
Ranked 124th in the world, Horacio Zeballos of Argentina scored a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Mischa Zverev of Germany in the second round of the 2011 Sparkassen Open. The Argentine took two hours and three minutes to send
Zverev packing with a two-set loss.
The 23-year-old German began the match confidently as he looked to attack Zeballos, right from the beginning. Keeping himself focused, Zverev managed to lock the first set, before losing the remaining sets in a very humiliating
way.
The German tennis pro played well in the first set of the match, scoring two aces while keeping a low number of unforced errors. He also managed to convert a decisive break point opportunity, although Zeballos fought back to evened
the score at 3-3. However, the German player finally managed to cause an upset, when Zeballos sailed a forehand wide.
The second set, however, began poorly for the German as he was immediately broken in the first game. Zeballos moved effortlessly around the court and gave his German opponent a run for his money. He brushed aside Zverev with his
amazing ground strokes and big serving, clinching the second set to tie the score at one set apiece.
After losing the second set, Zverev could not put up a decent fight in the match as he was never really in the decider, losing it with a 4-6 score line. Although his opponent was broken a couple of times in the decider, he still
went on to win comfortably with some of his sublime shot making and gutsy play. Zeballos took ten points more than Zverev and won the set 6-4, with an impressive 63 per cent of points on his service.
By virtue of his straight sets victory, the Argentine has improved his year-to-date win/loss mark to 7/5 matches and now moves on into the third round of the tournament, where he will be meeting either fourth-seeded Frederico Gil
or a Chilean qualifier, Julio Peralta.
