Ninth seed Horacio Zeballos of Argentina made it to the quarterfinal of the 2011 AON Open Challengers with an superb 6-4, 6-2 effort against Italian Enrico Burzi on Thursday in Genoa, Italy.
The 26-year-old looked in complete control of the match that lasted for just 1 hour and 44 minutes on the clay courts of Genoa. He is in excellent form for the last few days. In his opening round match, he battled past Boris Pashanski of Serbia in three tight sets. The Argentine will be very confident about the way he has been responding to difficult situations and if he can maintain his great form for the next few days, he has a great chance of lifting the trophy.
In the opening set, Zeballos looked a bit out of sorts as he committed a large number of unforced errors to let this opponent take control of the match. However, as the match progressed, he lifted his spirits and displayed some brilliant tennis from deep behind the baseline. He was all over his rival in the second as he dropped only couple of games to seal an emphatic victory.
Ranked 112th in the Association of Tennis Professionals ranking, Zeballos made a slow start to the match. Leaking crucial points early on, he soon found himself trailing 3-1 in the game score. Coming back from behind, the Argentine continued to play his natural game freely to even the game score at 4-4. Breaking his opponent for the second time in the opener, he took a crucial 5-4 lead in the set, serving for the match.
Zeballos continued to show his aggression in the following set as well as he created very tight angles wide off the court. Breaking the serve twice more in the match, he earned a handsome 5-2 lead. Holding on to his next service game with ease, he completed his straight sets victory to book his place in the last eight of the event.
