Alright so I come from a middle class town where tennis isent that big. I have to travel about 1 hour twice a week in the winter for decent training. So anyways, our high school coach this year retired and gave the possition to a 23 year old teacher who played 2nd doubles in HS and has no idea about the game. Also she ran one of our practices last year SHE DOSENT SAY A WORD TO ME, OR ANYONE ELTS FOR THAT MATTER. now if you were a coach wouldent you talk to your future #1 singles player, or atleast say hi? I played her in doubles in a student vs teacher game and she is horriable. So anyways, theirs this pro who worked at the hall of fame for 5 years, and has taught alot of tennis and wants this position. The Athletic Director even said he wish he had never hired this other lady. How should i approch trying to get this lady out of the coaching job? I REALLY WANT THIS PRO TO COME IN AND TEACH.

  1. Personally, you can't really do much, but you could appeal to the school board or something. If I were you, I would consult the athletic director, because he's on your side, and you just might rack something up.

    good luck =]

  2. I had the same problem. Our coach SUCKED, she was worse than our freshman. She was only hired because people who were already employed at the school had preference over someone from the outside, no matter how good they were. She did eventually get fired. A bunch of girls and their parents complained to the school, and a new coach was hired.

Talk to your athletic director, get other team members and their parents involved. If enough people complain, the school will take notice. There is no quick fix however :-(

  3. Most School Districts require that the coaches are employees of the school (i.e. teachers)  If they can't find a teacher willing or capable then they might go outside the school district to find a coach.

There are a lot of issues to consider the most important is financial... if it will cost a lot more to get this coach, is the school willing to pay for him(her)?  You said tennis isn't that important in your town, I've seen some of the tennis programs shut down due to tighter school budgets.  Is that a concern?

Anyway, the teacher is doing it to make some extra cash, if the other players and you make coaching a miserable experience, she'll quit... it isn't worth the stress.

Then the AD can do whatever he likes.

  4. Know your role, you are not incharge of hiring and firing lol.  Forget that cause its a little bit rude, its the athletic directors job.

You really like this guy, then you should take lessons from him and maybe some other people on the team should too, you can get your real training that way.

  5. That's really up to the school board to decide. Especially if you're going to a public school it's really difficult to fire someone just because someone else can do it better (it'd be an easy case for discrimination).

There is the chance that your coach can finish out the academic year and the board can offer the job to the tennis pro for the following year. It would be hard to do it in a non-offensive way to your current coach but the students could sign a petition for the change. If the board finds that the current coach is not capable and another is they'll consider offering the job to the pro for the next year.

No guarantees but it's worth a shot. I went through a similar situation with some awful coaches too.

  6. seriously go and talk to the athletic director..if shes rude then she doesnt deserve the spot.

i had a mean coach too
