Question:

Horrible practice ?

Well today I was at baseball practice & i don't think i could've had a worse of a practice. Almost every ball hit to me ended up as an error & it really got me down. As practice went on, I did a little bit better. I got hit about 30 balls & fielded about 23 of them cleanly. I play 2nd base and I need a little words of encouragement because I find myself to get down easily. Thanks.

  1. Thanks for posting that...........

I just came back from practice where my 2nd baseman suddenly found he couldn't throw straight or level anymore. He was missing 1st by 20 feet and didn't have even a hint of a follow through....he was throwing from an upright position, back bent backwards. He has been playing since he was three (and he was playing like he was still three years old !)

It was good to read that someone else had a bad practice and good to read the responses. Thanks.

Hang in there....it will come back to you !

(....and if it is any comfort he is still on the team :)

  2. Look at Dan Uggla (if you watched the all star game).

Well if you're asking here, it kinda seems like you have low confidence in your game.

Turn the page and believe in your ability. Always play YOUR game, and don't let it snowball.

    good luck

  3. just keep plugging away. i'm sure you've seen yourself make the plays so you know you can do it. just go out there and don't think about it. and remember, you play 2B, if you have to smother the ball, you still have time to make the play.

  4. It's better to suck in practice than in a game, right?

When I played, some of my best games came after a terrible batting practice. The key is not to think about what you did wrong, but how to do it right.

  5. Hey tats wats practice is 4, if we were all perfect we wouldnt practice, wed all b makin millions in the majors, dont worry ive had worse games than ur practice. I play 3rd and 1 game i went 0-5 w 5Ks, made 4 errors and started a bench clearing brawl wen a runner ran over my shortstop i went over there and punched him in his face... and no i didnt get thrown out but the runner did.

  6. Happens to everyone in practices and games wouldnt let it get you down.

Probably nerves or thinking too much about how to catch the ball before it gets to your glove.

Look at Uggla in the allstar game he made a few errors!

  7. Keep your body in front of the ball.  Keep your glove to the ground.  Watch the ball into your glove.

Every infielder has had a bad day in practice.  Just keep going over your fundamentals over and over, and don't get into bad habits like sideswiping the ball.

You have a tremendous adavantage at second base.  Even if you bobble the ball or it bounces off of your chest, you still have plenty of time to make the play.

Don't get down... Just get 'em out!

  8. Hey man, that's what practice is for. Now you have all those out of your system so you'll be perfect for the game.
