At the minute I'm really into scary films and books. I don't like the far fetched and gory stuff but I absolutely love the ones that are supposidly real life. My favourite horror book is Amityville Horror (know it's supposidly a hoax before anyone says) and I've read it so many times it's falling to pieces. Don't really like vampires and zombies just ghosts. Does anyone have any suggestions of books and films I might like, the scarier and more 'it could sort of happen' the better? Thank you x x x

  1. If you want real horror, read ANY book by Wes Craven.  That guy has a demented mind but he said in an interview that all his books were based on dreams he had.  I'd like to know what he ate before going to bed because I'm going to avoid it.  Stephen King is another good one.  The Langoliers was really good, The Stand, both were made into movies.  Last week I saw the new movie "Ruins", that was creepy but I liked it.  Have you seen the movie "Catacombs".  That one will keep you on your toes.  I could on and on because I love horror movies but like you, I don't like zombies and vampires.

  2. A horror film hardly anybody knows about is Jacob's Ladder, which is a really good movie--the last 3 minutes takes all you thought you knew and twists it into something completely unexpected.

One of my favorite horror movies is Ghost Ship, it's tightly plotted, moves fast, and has one of the best montage scenes in it that I've ever seen in a movie.  Both are older movies but I found them at the library. I think they're from the 1980's.

  3. its an old book and may be hard to find but the book called The scew tape letters IS SCARY ITS KIND OF A HARD READ BUT ONCE YOU GET THE JEST OF IT IT WILL TOSS OUT YOUR NIGHTMARES

  4. Serial Mom...weird..Funny but weird.

The original 1963 version of the "Haunting" scares the peas outta me still,  "In the night, in the dark, no one will hear you scream, no one lives any closer than town, one will come any closer than that, in the night, in the dark,  no one will hear you scream,  in the night, in the dark..."

Just does NOT get any better.

Changling is good  George C. Scott does well in this.

Pet Semetary,,only could sit through it once.. barely made it though the book

    The Shining, of course.

Stephen King's new book, Duma Key is just...just...wierd..and if you have ever been to Florida..well maybe you won't want to go back.

Shirley Jackson is my favorite author of the paranormal.  "We have always lived the Castle: and the "Haunting of Hill House" are great.  So are her short stories.  They linger.. The Lottery is her best known work.  And I think, that someone made a short film of this but am not sure.

Annie Prouix has some very strange little stories too.

    or have you seen:

    Stigmata

    Gothika,

    The excorsism of Emily Rose

    Hide and seek

    White noise 1 & 2

    all good movies

  8. 'dracula in mars.'

  9. Testimony by Mark Chadbourn 1996

It's about a family who moved into a house in Wales. They had Christians, spiritualists, various eccentrics to help, each with their own theories. Although the horror receded it would always return. I've got a copy. Its quite a read. Its says that its a true story. It used material from the Brecon and Radnor Express. There are photos in the middle of the house, the couple and their two children. The house was called Heol Fanog. They moved in during 1989.

  10. Try Haunted by James Herbert! It kept me gript and is the only book ever that actually managed to make me jump!!! How that happened I dunno! but it did! Just a suggestion!

  11. try reading a few dennis wheatley books ' the devil rides out' etc.maybe a little dated but worth a read.

  12. I like the same hun.  Books.....well got to be James Herbet ' The Magic Cottage' or 'The Dark'  or 'The Moon'........i could go on as all his books are good.  Films....well there is ' Ghost Story' or 'The Blair Witch Project'  or 'Sixth Sense....to name a few.
