Horse Coloring......

Question

This may seem strange but...we had a beautiful mare show up on our yard this morning and I can't figure out what color she is to describe her to people. At first glance I thought she was a Blue Roan, but once you look at her more she seems to have more brown than black in her. Any help, and possibly pictures, would be greatly appreciated so we can get her back to her proper owners. Thank you!

Does she look like any of those horses? She sounds like a dark bay roan to me.

She might be considered a bay roan, although blue roans can have black AND brown hairs.

Here's a picture, it's not the best, but see how the mare is blue roan but still have some brown in her coat?

ok i think she is a grullo roan....im not sure cuz there isnt a picture but here is a link that has a picture of a grullo roan... also if you go to google images and type grullo roan in the search bar a ton of pics will come up...hope this helps

hmmmmm..... There's a horse that ride sometimes that i think probably looks like what your talking about. Does she look almost navy blue? and does she have dapples? She sounds to me like some form of a gray cause the one i ride is some form of a gray too.

Its hard without looking at her myself but if she has brown hairs mixed with white then she is a red roan.  Try a book called Horse colors explained.  You may know someone who has it or try a library.  It has pictures that are clear and clearly explained.
