  1. just remember your going to outgrow the horse before he out grows you so i would go for a 14.2 or so because your not going to get THAT much taller

  2. no that pony is the perfect for you although im 5 foot 6 and i ride a 15.2 hh horse

  3. A horse is only too short in two cases.

    1. The horse can be fully saddled and walk between your legs with out disturbing you.

    2. Your feet drag the ground when your riding.

Thats pretty much it. My roping horse is 14.2 with old shoes on(being old shoes, his feet are longer). Luck

  4. I'm 5'1" and my horse is 17.3 so theres not really a set height. For awhile i had a 14.1 pony quarter pony, i looked a little big on her. But she was a pretty good height. If you don't want to fall along way then i'd suggest something 16 hands and under.  =]  so pretty much any height is fine, just depends on what you like, if you like ponies or tall horses. Quarter Ponies are great breeds, they are VERY cute and have TONS of spring in their jump and can easily clear 3+ foot, they also make super eventers!!!!

  5. No. You will be fine on it. My friend is 5'2" ans her horse is 13.1hh too! And she looks just the right size for him!

  6. it really depends on ur preference

  7. I am the same height as you. The best choice would be better to choose a horse anywhere from 14.2-15.3 but, it all depends on you. Ive seen short people like us riding 16 hand TB's and they have no prob. It also may depend whether you want to do alot of trails as well. If so, you definitely probably dont want a horse as high as 16.0 hands because you want to be able to fit in under the trees and not get caught up in the branches. But, its all up to you darlin!

  8. This doesn't sound to short to me - however, the height of the horse doesn't make or break the relationship.  Just because you're 4' 11" doesn't mean you should purchase a short horse - unless that's what you WANT.

The weight is more the thing - a horse shouldn't carry more than 10-15% of its body weight, so if the animal weighs 900 lbs, he should only carry about 90 - 135 lbs.

  9. well im 5 feet so its about the same. im looking for a 14hh pony. thats the height you should be aiming for also. as for the breed, check out welsh ponies. they're awesome :)

  10. Horse height doesn't matter as much as someone would think. I'm 5'6 and I ride horses that are 16.2 and up. Normally, someone would reccomend that I ride a horse that's around 15hh. I have seen people that are 4'11 ride horses that are 17.1 hh. It's all relative, it depends on whether that 13.1hh pony is going to be able to jump the 3 footers you want to. I don't think so. In this case, a bigger horse would be much better. However, if you want just a pleasure horse and your pony can hold you without any discomfort, I would say to go for it. Remember, take your pony's weight and divide by 5. If you are any heavier than this, I would not ride.

Ex, If your horse weighs 1200, divide it by 5 so

1200/5 = 240. So, if you were over 240 pounds, it would probably hurt your horse if you were to ride him.

    Good luck!

  11. Well also remember your probably going to grow. But just make sure your feet don't drag.

  12. I am not an expert, but I think for a 13.1 horse would be ok. Keep in mind you will grow, but i am 4-6 and i rode a pony that is about 8.2 hh.

  13. Its all about your comfort and your weight. I dont know how old you are, but if you are young and are going to grow more you may want to look for somthing a little bigger....I have rode horses from 11hh all the way up to 18.5hh...i like bigger ones. But its a personal choice aslong asyou are not to heavy and maybe keep your center of gravity in mind. I think 15hh is really a good height for and person.
