Well I simply LOVE horses and I really want to be around them every moment I get, when i'm older as well. So I was wondering what other horse jobs are out there besides a farm animal vet? What would I have to do for the job? and How much would it pay?

Thanks

  1. You already have some good answers......how about a certified NARHA instructor?   Check out http://www.narha.org/   for more information.

This is a riding instructor for handicapped people.  Its is a GREAT job.

  2. Being a trainer can pay well, especially if your horses are turning out really responsive and winning in whatever discipline you choose.

  3. You could be a farrier, I know we pay $25/horse for a simple trimming. You have to go to farrier school to become licensed (i believe 8weeks?), but to see if it's for you you could try and apprentice with a farrier you know, just watch out for back problems. I know that I have been judging local 4-H horse shows and making a good bit of money, anywhere from $100-250 as an uncarded judge. Carded judges tend to get paid alot more and work the bigger shows. I know to be a carded judge for 4-H you have to go to a seminar and pass a test usually takes about a weekend or so. Annother possibility is if you live near a track (standardbred, thoroghbred, quarter horse, paint horse) They may be looking for groomers, exercisers, general barn help, hot walkers, etc. Im not sure how much something like that would pay, but if you live near by call them up and ask. :) There's alot to do within the horse industry but you have to be careful because the horse industry goes up and down and there isnt always alot of money in it.

  4. You could babysit horses.  It would probably pay 40$ or more

    =)

  5. Oooh i'd reccomend showing---but on the side training. It'll earn you money---if you're good, and it'll be hella tight (fun).

  6. Equine massage therapist/chiropractor

It's a very hands on job that more and more people are paying for.

  7. trainer $30 - $150 hour, depending on what you do.

    stable-hand

    groom

    farrier

    dentist

    vet

    show judge

agh there are SO many things you can do! i personally am a trainer.

  8. You are not going to like this but i really recommend not having a job in the equine bussiness.  I am only saying this becasue if you have your own horses they become a chore not a pleasure.  When you have been out trainning/riding /grooming eveyone elses horses you wont look forward to going to your stables at the end of the day to yet ride and look after yet another horse.

I am only saying this becasue from personal experience I had always dreamed of working with horses.  I did some work experience and it took about a month to relise that i was emotionally negelecting my own horse.  My horse is my pride and joy i used to look at her grazing out in her field and think wow she is why i go to work to earn money and still be skint but shes worth every penny.  But when i was doing the work experience i began to see her as yet another job to do rather than a hobby which was my way of chilling out and relaxing.  So i quit working with horses so that i could have my horse back and she had me back.  She is now even more spoiled rotten than she was before and i enjoy every min with her like i used to.  So i now have a better payed job as workin with horses doesnt pay! so i can spend more time with her doing stuff we like and we are looking forward to our first season showing together.

I know that some people will read this post and think well she isnt a real horse person but i am.  Really i am.  So i would really take this into consideration and thik about it.  And before you say anything rude about what i have written you said that you wanted everyones opinion.  So heres mine.

Best wishes in the horse world weathter your employed in it or just see it as a way of chilling out.  Make your own decision.
