Have you ever heard the expression, "Lots of Chrome" used to describe a horse?

I saw an ad for a horse (Half-Arab yearling, chestnut filly) for sale, and she was described as "flashy, with LOTS OF CHROME" ... and I have no idea what that means!

Even my daughter and her horsey-friends don't know ... do you?

Thanks!

  1. Lots of Chrome means a lot of white, flashy points.  The animal probably has two or more white legs or feet or stockings. more than likely a lot of white on the face.

To most people, white on a horse is startling compared to the darker body parts - it gets attention.  However, my boyfriend isn't a chrome kind of guy, he likes the browns and bays without a lot of white - but I've always loved lots of white.

Watch the ads, when they say this, does the horse have a lot of white on it's body?  That's what it means.

  9. Well in slang it means showy.  So they could be saying that the horse is very showy and attractive.

Or they could be talking about white markings that the horse has.  When a horse has lots of white markings, people normally say the horse has chrome.  They say this because the horse looks very showy, which refers back to the slang definition.

  12. Yep!  I sure do know what it means.  If it was in an ad in the paper, it was meant to get your attention.  Looks like it did.

Anyway, it is an expression that is used when a horse or pony is a real knock out (like a pretty woman).  Another term used is "flashy".  Basically it is a very attractive horse that stands out in a crowd.  But like I always say "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"

  17. Heyyy.

Chrome refers to their white markings. So a horse with lots of tall socks and a big blaze, for example, has a lot of chrome.

This is a good thing because it makes them flashier in the show ring and to the eye. Just makes the hrse more unique which is why it is advertised when horses are put up for sale, to show the horse is "unique".

    Good luck! :)

  23. i THINK it means lots of flashy and good points on the horse, like coloring, and blazes , dapples, and pretty little details

it's kinda like a motorcycle that has "alotta chrome"

  24. White markings. Mostly it refers to breeding stock paints.
