Horse Lovers Please Answer!?

Question

It was my first horse show and I think I could have done better. I got 4th and 5th and I didn't place in one event. I have been riding almost 2 years, I beat my friend in one class, she has been riding 6 years. Are they good placings, be honest.

If the event was held over the coarse of more than one day, and you competed against a large number of other riders in your class, then , yes - you did fairly well for only having ridden 2 years, but of course you, and your horse still have some work to do. But I think you already know this. Well done.

Depends on how many horses were in the class.  In a big class (>10 horses), those are excellent for a first effort.  Even better if the classes were 20 or more horses.

If the classes were <10 horses, it's still good, but not quite as good.  

It also depends on how the people ahead and behind you performed.  

If you really want an assessment of how you did, you might need to talk to a trainer.

CONGRATS!  At least you got in the ribbons at your first show.  I went 2 years without a blue, then 6 more yrs  before I won my national championship.  I had been riding since 3, so long hours, dirty butts, and hard work DO eventually pay off!!!

don't worry. i've been riding just as long and probably wouldn't do even that good. congrats on your first horse show!

If you feel like you put in your best effort and your horse did, then you did good. Two years honestly isn't that long. I've been riding for 10 and still make those places some times. Don't forget to have fun when you show too. One point I lost that along the way and got burnt out for a while. It also depends on how many people are in the same class. Getting a first place takes work, but when you do, it makes it that much better!

You are fine.

I rode for three years and went into my first horse show.  I didnt place at all, but eventually I went to national competition.

Maybe it was the horse, maybe nerves.  Maybe the horse was nervous.

They are awesome placings for your first show!  The highest I placed was third, and that was after riding for 20 years and showing for 10 (granted, I showed once a year at the county fair, but still).  Just keep training, and you'll be bound to be awesome!
