    Sounds cruel, but in order to inprove the breed, many breeders will geld all but a few exceptional horses. This help breeders get the better horses. And horses will breed like rabbits.  

  3. A gelding is  castrated stallion. They still have an interest in mares and still like to be around them. They just don't have the testosterone that pushes them to bust down fences to get to them. When my mares come in for water, Geldings as well as Stallions will gather on the mare side of their pasture.

    Gelding-Any age male horse that is gelded.

    Gelding a horse is like nuetering a dog, but for horses.

    When people have male foals, they decide weather or not they want them to be kept entire (not castrate them)

    If they want to castrate them, they remove their "bits" (testicles) so they can no longer reproduce and dont get the urge to mate with mares.

A gelding is a male horse that used to be a stallion, but has been neutered.  This usually makes them calmer and less interested in mares (girls).  They can no longer reproduce, but make ideal mounts for any rider.  Stallions are quite the handful and only very expirenced riders should handal them (not all stallions are wacky, but most are and kids can't usually compete on them).
