Horse Racing, Lookin At Lucky, the Thoroughbred colt
American Thoroughbred race horse, Lookin At Lucky was foaled on 27th of May 2007. The bay coloured colt became particularly famous after he won the Preakness Stakes 2010. The racehorse was bought for $ 35,000 while he was still a yearling at the
2008 Keenland September Sale.
Lookin At Lucky worked 1/8th of a mile in 10 seconds after which he was bought for $ 475,000 at the 2009 Keenland April Sale by Bob Baffert. The three year old Thoroughbred racehorse is currently owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman,
while he is trained by Bob Baffert.
Lookin At Lucky participated in the 2009 Horse Racing season as a two year old colt. He broke his maiden on the 11th of July, running a six furlong race on the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park.
The racehorse then went on to contend the Grade II Best Pal Stakes, which was held at the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar California. He finished the six and a half furlongs long race in the second spot under the jockey, Garrett Gomez. It took Lookin At Lucky
1 minute and 16.06 seconds to cover the distance.
His associates then decided that Lookin At Lucky should test his talent in the 7 furlong Grade I Del Mar Futurity Stakes, once again under Garrett Gomez. The colt was successful in winning the meet in a time of 1 minute and 22.85 seconds. Lookin At Lucky
then contended the Grade I Norfolk Stakes.
The race was to be run over a distance of 8.5 furlongs, by a full field of 12 competitors. The talented colt confirmed his participation in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile by winning the aforementioned Stakes in a time of 1 minute and 43.11 seconds. Breeders’
Cup Juvenile was contended by Lookin At Lucky from the 13th post, while he settled in the second position at the end of the meet behind the European winner Vale of York.
Three of the Thoroughbred colt’s major wins came from the 2010 Horse Racing Season. On the 13th of March 2010, Lookin At Lucky stepped into the Oaklawn Park and returned victorious in the Rebel Stakes. Even though, the colt tripped badly during
the run down the backstretch.
Next month, on the 3rd of April Lookin At Lucky finished third in the Santa Anita Derby under the jockey Garrett Gomez. The colt did not really have a good trip of the track since he was jostled and bumped into the fence.
Lookin At Lucky made his first off the board finish in the 2010 Kentucky Derby. The colt settled in the sixth spot and was pinned to the rail. Lookin At Lucky’s trainer Bob Baffert was very disappointed with the colt’s performance in the aforementioned Kentucky
Derby. He thus, hesitantly fired jockey Garrett Gomez and appointed Martin Garcia as Lookin At Lucky’s new jockey.
Lookin At Lucky then entered the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes, which took place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The race took place on the 15th of May 2010 and was won by the talented racehorse in a time of 1
minute and 55.47 seconds. He managed to hold off First Dude and Jackson Bend, who were his arch competitors in the race.
The next race that Lookin At Lucky contended under the jockey Martin Garcia and trainer Bob Baffert was the Haskell Invitational Stakes in August 2010. Despite an absurd starting, the colt managed to finish the race four lengths ahead of the runner up.
Trappe Shot was the second place finisher, while First Dude made it to the third spot. In this particular meet, Lookin At Lucky received his career best speed which was 105 on the Beyer Speed Figure scale.
The last race that Lookin At Lucky entered in the 2010 racing season was the Indiana Derby which was held at small Hoosier Park. The colt won the race by 1/4th of a length at and achieved a 103 Beyer Speed Figure for his outstanding performance.
