Horse Racing: Al Shemali returns to turf for the Duty Free warm-up
The champion of the 2010 edition of the Group I Dubai Duty Free will be returning to the claim the event for the second time. He will be warming up to once again prove his talent and potential in the Group 2 Jebel Hatta that will be run on this Thursday
over the same distance as the aforementioned race, over a mile and a furlong. The Duty Free this racing term will be taking place in March.
This warm up is Al Shemali’s return to the turf surface after he gave two performances on Tapeta in the month of February. The assistant to the trainer of the champion racehorse, Jilani Siddiqui was approached by the correspondents regarding the development
of Al Shemali. He was reported as saying, “He has run well both time on the Tapeta, but his best form is obviously on the turf, so we have opted for the Duty Free route again.”
As for the Maktoum Challenge, the trainee of the famed trainer Luca Cumani, Presvis has been registered as a favourite with Wigmore Hall and Poet’s Voice.
The champion racehorse Gitano Hernando is also one of the favourite entries for the Maktoum Challenge. Meanwhile, he has the option to be a part of the Group 2 Dubai City of Gold that will be run over the same distance (1 mile and 4 furlongs) on the turf
surface as the Group 1 Sheema Classic. Gitano Hernando possesses the highest international rating of 118 points this year, from amongst 17 entries in that competition. He was followed by the trainee of Freddie Head, Marinous with a point rating of 117.
The champion of the 2010 edition of the De c**k’s UAE Derby, Musir, is also amongst the 36 entries of the Group 3 Burj Nahaar over a distance of 1 mile and on Tapeta surface. Musir always set his eyes upon this event, meanwhile the other entries for this
race includes the names of Richard’s Kid and Mendip. Nonetheless, these two colts have several other options to claim the events on that evening.
