Horse Racing: Americain to target Hong Kong Vase
The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase, Group I, is scheduled to take place in Hong Kong on Sunday. The event will be run over a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs and has been opened for racehorses of age three and above. The race will kick off at 6.00 a.m. (ATR/RUK/SIS).
This race has been mostly dominated by European racehorses. This time, once again the Melbourne Cup winner Americain is set to lead the strong overseas challenge at the opening competition of the International series.
The last eight editions of this event have been ruled by Britain and France, adding up to 14 of the total 16 races that have been run so far. This year, Alain de Royer-Dupre’s much-developed stayer will now be featuring in the start after his remarkable
victory in Australia’s most exalted racing event that took place last month.
The racehorse Americain is known to have splendid form on good grounds, and the one on which he will be running on Sunday is great. His fans are excited to see him run once again after his three length victory in the Melbourne Cup under the jockey Gerald
Mosse.
Stephanie Nigge, the work-rider was approached by correspondents after Ameicain’s practice session on Friday. She was reported as saying, “Once he has decided to go, he’s really impressive. What an engine he has got!”
What makes this race particularly attractive to witness is the fact that it is going to feature the highest quality racehorses from all over the world. The list of contenders includes the names of four British colts, the most celebrated of which is Crystal
Capella. He is the trainee of Sir Michael Stoute and will be ridden by the jockey Ryan Moore.
The British quartet that will be running in the race is completed by Mastery (St Leger winner), Grade I champion Redwood and Grade II winner Indian Days.
Joshua Tree, the International champion will be representing Canada in Hong Kong on Sunday. The racehorse is expected to perform better in this event after he was the tenth place finisher in the Japan Cup.
According to the sports analysts, there is a high possibility that the Europe’s winning streak will come to an end in this running of the Hong Kong Vase meeting. This is being said because Japanese raider Jaguar Mail will be offering a tough competition
to all his rivals in the race on Sunday.
