Horse Racing: Big Bucks claims the Long Walk at Newbury
Where Leopardstown staged some quality horse racing events, Newbury also hosted the flaunted AP Wins Sports Personality Long Walk Hurdle. The Grade I event took place over a distance of 3 miles and half a furlong and was contended by racehorses of age four
and above. The rescheduled Long Walk Hurdle at Newbury was undoubtedly claimed by the splendid racehorse Big Bucks.
The superstar has now made a record of ten straight victories and his position as being a brilliant hurdler has now been confirmed, as he won the event by a distance of six lengths over the colt Lough Derg. Even though, those who witnessed him winning the
race could not see clearly how Big Bucks took over the field, he for sure gave a spectacular performance as never before.
In a post race interview, his delighted trainer was reported as saying, “That was what we expected.” He went on to say, “Big Buck’s is more assured now he is older and stronger, and ability-wise is as good as anything I’ve trained.”
On the race day there was a thick blanket of fog that made visibility almost nil. The way the contenders finished the race could not be captured clearly by the camera’s eye and was perhaps only witnessed by the jockeys mounted on their rides.
The splendid horserace was partnered by the champion jockey Tony McCoy, making the duo’s dominance in the event inevitable. After clinching victory in this particular race, Big Bucks got his odds trimmed by Totesport. He went to 4-7 from 4-6 for the World
Hurdle and 4-7 from 4-5 for the William Hill meeting.
On the other hand, the runner up Lough Derg was seen to struggle to take over the winner throughout the race. Even though he was not even close to holding off Big Bucks, he continued the race to stick to the second spot. Talking to the correspondents in
a post race interview, Lough Derg’s jockey said, “Big Bucks is very hard to beat, but I’m delighted with Lough Derg.”
It was a lucky day for Paul Nicholls, as champion trainer saddled three winners in the previous events, meanwhile Big Bucks was his fourth winner for today.
