Horse Racing: Carlton House might go for the Dante Stakes
The champion racehorse, Carlton House, owned by the Queen, might go on to contend the Dante Stakes, scheduled to take place at the York racecourse on the 14th of May. This race will give an opportunity to the connections of the racehorse to assess
the Carlton’s credentials for the Investec Derby. The Dante Stakes is a Group 2 event and is being sponsored by the famous totesport.com. Meanwhile, Carlton House will be saddled by the trainer, Sir Michael Stoute, in this race.
According to reports, the aforementioned trainer has always preferred the Kvanesmire race as the step towards victory in the Epsom Classic event. Nonetheless, this time around the situation is different as the Queen is hoping that the Epsom glory will fall
for her racehorse. This has not happened since the year 1953 when her racehorse Aureole could only finish next to the racehorse Pinza in the Epsom classic.
Sir Michael Stoute has saddled five Derby winners in his career as a trainer. Two of these winners also clinched victories in the York meeting. These two colts were Sharastani, who won the Derby in the year 1986, and North Light, who claimed the Derby back
in 2004. Moreover, one of his other trainees, Work Force, finished second to Cape Blanco in the 2010 edition of the race after which he gave a spectacular performance on the Downs.
It has been reported that the sponsors, Ladbrokes, have quoted Carlton House at staggering odds of 10-1 for the Derby. The racehorse came to the limelight when he posted a spectacular victory in the Newbury meeting that took place in October of 2010. In
this particular race, Carlton House held off the champion colt, Yasser, by a distance of nine lengths. Following his two meetings at Newbury, the racehorse then managed to finish the Group 3 Craven Stakes next to the champion Native Khan at the Newmarket racecourse
that took place last week. Carlton House is named after a former Royal residence.
