Horse Racing: Forecast for Doncaster not very promising
There has been a series of abandonments and cancellations of horse racing events in the past couple of days due to the extremely freezing conditions throughout Britain and Ireland. The calendar of the racing meeting this season
has been damaged and the fans of the sport as well as those involved in the horse business are utterly disappointed with the abandonment of the races, jump and hurdle fixtures.
Doncaster racecourse has been covered with snow, and thus is it not possible for the workers at the track to thaw for the two-day fixture that has been scheduled to start from Friday; the clerk of the racecourse, David Williams
told the correspondents on Tuesday.
Since the official inspection has not yet taken place and the officials are planning it at noon on Wednesday, no official announcement regarding the meeting’s abandonment has been made. The snow-bound Doncaster holds little chances
of the event to take place after the snow on the track was as thick as six to eight inches. Moreover, the forecast for the week also does not leave any promising possibilities for the fixture to take place.
While talking to the correspondents about the scenario at the racecourse and the upcoming event, the clerk said, “It’s currently -6C. I just looked at the weather and there’s no chance we’ll thaw out in time. We’ll leave the inspection
as it is but it is looking very unlikely.”
The significant event of the two-day meeting is the Grade II Betdaq App For Android Summit Juvenile Hurdle that has been scheduled for Saturday.
On the other hand, the clerk of the Huntingdon course, Andrew Morris, is also sceptical of the Peterborough Chase meeting to take place on Thursday.
The clerk of the course has planned an inspection at 8 a.m. today morning, but he is not very confident of the meeting, taking place, since the track is still frozen at places and cannot be thawed in this little time.
Talking to the correspondents today, he said, “It is still the same as yesterday (frozen in places). We got down to -8C overnight, we’ll struggle up to about 0C today, -2C or -3C overnight and then tomorrow we expect a slight warm
up to about 2C. It looks like the warm air will come too late for us.”
