Horse Racing: Gary Carter will resume riding in Spain and France
The famous jockey Gary Carter is set to make an effective comeback in France after he was banned by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). Carter was suspended for five years, but he will still be featuring in Wednesday’s meeting.
After the ban, expired in October, that was imposed on him because he was reported to have passed on some confidential information about a racehorse that he was going to ride in a race, he has now acquired his jockey license once
again from Spanish Racing authorities, where he is living right now. Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that the jockey will be making a trip to Deauville, where he will be going ahead with two colts that are training under the care of Jennifer Bidgood.
What is intriguing about this whole situation is the fact that the jockey has been granted the riding license by the racing authorities in Spain whereas he will certainly be denied of the document by the BHA. Moreover, surprisingly,
the authorities in Spain did not tally the credentials of the horseman in Britain where he owes fine money of 2,068.51 pounds.
When the spokesperson of BHA was approached regarding Carter’s comeback, Paul Struthers said,
“On the basis of that Spain didn’t approach us for clearance we will be informing the Spanish authorities that he is on the forfeit list and therefore is effectively disqualified and ask them to reciprocate.”
The jockey is reported to be living in Costa de Sol and is scheduled to mount the two colts for the trainer Bidgood. The two horses are named as Lisselan Laughter and Life to Golf. The trainer was the apprentice of Clive Brittain,
who is the trainer at Deauville.
Carter also gave an interview to the correspondents in which he said,
“Jennifer and I go back some years and it was her idea that I should try to restart my career. I will be helping her at the stable but am still based with my family near Mijas in Spain. These will be my first rides since finishing my five year ban and the
Spanish authorities granted me a licence a month ago.”
On the other hand, the English-born trainer Bidgood is excited since this is going to be her first racing season in France and she is expecting to claim the honours. So far, the talented trainer has developed 25 victorious racehorses
and has managed to earn a total of more than 395,000 pounds in purse money.
In the meantime, she is enjoying a holiday in Sri Lanka, where she talked to the media about the preparations of her trainees for the event at Deauville. She was reported as saying,
“Gary has come over to help us at the stable where he will ride out and also be on board some of our runners.”
