Horse Racing: Golden Silver claims the Grade II event
Fairyhouse offered some quality racing events today including the prestigious Grade II Tote Pick Six Normans Grove Chase. The event was run over a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong at the Fairyhouse racecourse and was contended by racehorses of age 5 and
above.
After the talented racehorse Golden Silver claimed the Grade II event, his famed trainer Willie Mullins is planning something like sending out the nine-year-old superstar to contend the Ryanair Chase instead of the Champion Chase. Meanwhile, the racehorse
is being quoted as a 12-1 shot for the former event, with the sponsors.
When the champion trainer Willie Mullins was approached by the correspondents, he was reported as saying, “He has an entry in both the Ryanair and the Queen Mother (Champion Chase). If he goes to Cheltenham, it could well be for the Ryanair.”
On other hand, it has been revealed that the victorious colt has never made it over a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong in any racing event apart from the race that he won on Sunday. He was sent out to contend this event at odds as short as 2-11 and was
successful in winning the Grade II event for the second time in this racing season. Golden Silver thus won clear dominance over his rivals.
Golden Silver was ridden by the jockey Paul Towend in this particular race at Fairyhouse today. The dup first sat in second and then went down the back straight. Meanwhile, the front-runner Rubi Light was just able to engineer a dominating 15 length lead.
Nonetheless, Towend made his mount take over the lead and hold off the field while returning home and thus Golden Silver was able to dominate by just an inch. After this, it was just a matter of a few strides for the jockey and Golden Silver to take over
Rubi Light, who was 15 lengths ahead. Golden Silver’s victory was made clear between the final two fences of the race. It was not a very easy win for Golden Silver that he claimed over Rubi Light. Rubi Light finished the race in the second spot, while Golden
Silver was five and a half lengths ahead of him.
In a post race interview, Willie Mullins was reported as saying, “Only his class got him through. He was in trouble a long way out. He is a winter-ground horse but it was very testing today. He seemed unhappy a long way out.”
