Horse Racing: Haimish Hy wins Hollywood Derby
The racehorse Haimish Hy took over the field at Hollywood Park in the much anticipated Hollywood Derby that took place on Monday evening in USA. The talented colt, under the famed jockey Garrett Gomez won the race by holding off pace setter Sebastian Flyte
by a neck. The former colt was sent out as a 7-5 favourite. On the other hand the third place finisher of this event was Juniper Pass, who was a head behind the runner up. The meet was run over a distance of 1 mile and 1 furlongs on a turf surface and was
contended by racehorses of ages three and above.
Citrus Kid managed to finish the event in fourth place and was a further length behind Juniper Pass. When the winning jockey Gomez was approached for a post race interview, he was reported as saying, “My specific instructions were to keep him on the outside.”
He went on to say, “He really wasn’t all that comfortable down there, so I swung him out turning gor home and moved him from behind those horses. He’s got a big heart and he came home really well for us.”
The winning horse, Haimish Hy was sent out to run in the Hollywood Derby at 119-10. The most recent of the races contested by the champion colt was the Grade II Oak Tree Derby that was run at Santa Anita in the mid of October this racing season. Haimish
Hy was the fifth place finisher in the aforementioned start and was the only turf event, out of three, lost by him.
It was not a very lucky day for the runner up Sebastian Flyte, as he was held off by Haimish Hy even after trying to take over the eventual winner in the beginning.
