The harsh weather conditions across Britain and Ireland have caused the abandonment of many fixtures that were scheduled to take place this week. Some of the events have been cancelled, while others have been rescheduled.
The Kempton Twilight Event that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 3.50 p.m. is now rescheduled to take place at 2.00 p.m. tomorrow. The meet has been moved after an investigation that was conducted by the officials at
the racecourse.
The meeting is based on eight races that will now end at 5.30 p.m. After the cancellation of the Ayr and Navan meeting, this is the only event that is going to take place on Wednesday. Other events in doubt include the Catterick
and Plumpton. If the Kempton meeting was also cancelled, it would have left Wednesday without any jump racing event.
On the other hand, The Turf Club announced on Tuesday, the 30th of November that Punchestown is unfit for hosting a racing event that was supposed to take place this Sunday. The racecourse has been covered with snow,
however the officials are still inspecting the prospects of the weekend fixture. Meanwhile, it was also announced on Tuesday that the Clonmel will take place on Sunday afternoon as per the schedule since the ground is fit for the start.
Moreover, the Thursday jump fixtures that were to take place in Market Rasen and Leicester have also been abandoned after an inspection that was conducted on Tuesday morning. These two events have also been called off due to the
heavy snowfall which has caused the racecourse to become unfit for hosting the sports events.
This is not all. Another event has been announced to be in doubt as the big freeze in the Britain and Ireland is too harsh for any racing event to proceed. Barry Johnson, the clerk of Exeter racecourse has called for an inspection.
It is revealed that the inspection will take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday for the Exeter meeting that was scheduled to take place on Thursday.
The results of the Plumpton inspect that was supposed to take place at 3 p.m. will determine whether another fixture will be added to the list of abandoned fixtures this week. When the clerk of Plumpton racecourse announced the
second inspection of the course, he said, “If there is further improvement today then I will have to take a look tomorrow as we forecast a cold night, between 0 degree Celsius and -5 degree Celsius depending on who you ask or what you read, but if there is
no improvement by 3 p.m., then I will have to abandon.”
