Horse Racing: Joseph O’Brien victorious at Dundalk, while Aidan O’Brien penalised
Joseph O’Brien claimed victory in the second event on the racehorse Alexander Pope in the apprentice championship that concluded at Dundalk, today. The jockey was successful in closing the gap to three winners behind the dominators of the meeting.
The successful horse was sent out as a 2-7 favourite, meanwhile Pirate Chest was first and was behind his stable mate. According to the sport critics, the racehorse did not justify the bleak price that he was sent out as.
After this victory at Dundalk, O’Brien has come very close to the apprentice title of Gary Carroll who shared the dominance with his compatriot Ben Curtis. Joseph O’ Brien has claimed 36 wins so far, meanwhile the two aforementioned horsemen have 39 wins to their credit.
The other rides that the three jockeys will be mounting on today are mentioned ahead. As for O’Brien, he will be riding Mr Pianist and Pires at 4.30 and 5.30 p.m. respectively.
Gary will be riding the racehorses Midnight Manhattan, Leaves You Baby and Bravely Fought at 4.30, 5.00 and 5.30 p.m. respectively.
Meanwhile, Ben Curtis has been given the responsibility to take ahead Playdate and King of Aran at Dundalk at 4.30 and 5.00 p.m. respectively.
It was also reported earlier in the day that Aidan O’Brien is waiting for a decision that is due next week regarding the penalty that will be imposed on him for “acting in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of horseracing in Great Britain.”
The jockey has not denied the charge that is associated to the riding of the racehorse Cape Blanco in the Totesport Dante Stakes at York. He admitted his guilt at the BHA hearing organized by the disciplinary panel of the authority on Wednesday.
Apart from the aforementioned charge, the trainer was also found guilty of being a part of his employee’s decision to refuse to abide by the instructions issued by the stewards at York. He also admitted to these charges. His employee Pat Keating has also been breached after his denial to comply with the instructions.
The authority has also asked the trainer to bring his racehorse Cape Blanco to a stewards’ inquiry since he sustained a heel injury, which will be checked by the veterinary surgeon of the racecourse. The penalty decision will be announced by the panel sometime in the next week.
