Horse Racing: Kempton’s Tuesday fixture goes ahead
The officials of the Kempton racecourse carried out an inspection this morning to discuss the prospects of the Tuesday meeting. As a result of the inspection, they announced that the jumpers’ bumper card will be kicking off at the Kempton track on Tuesday.
When the clerk of the course, Barney Clifford, was asked for his comments about the current situation of the course and the meeting; he said that the racing will be taking place. He also added that the area received a few centimeters of snow the night before
but since the temperatures remained above the freezing point, it was possible for them to give the meeting a go-ahead. He also said that the management is vexing the rest of the snow from the track so that it is perfectly raceable.
Talking about the Wednesday meeting at Kempton, Clifford said that the course would once again be inspected before giving the Wednesday fixture a go-ahead. The inspection has been revealed to take place at 7 in the morning, after the Met Office forecasted
snowfall in the area on Tuesday night. The forecasters are expecting that about 3 to 7 centimetres of snow will be received by the region.
As for the implications of the snowfall on the William Hill King George VI Chase meeting that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Clifford was reported as saying, “We’re just taking it one day at a time.”
On the other hand, an afternoon inspection will be held today at the Lingfield racecourse to give the final announcement of its Wednesday’s fixture. The Ground staff has been reported to be inspecting the Polytrack at 3.30 in the afternoon today. The acting
clerk of the course Andy Waitt revealed that the team has called an inspection to monitor the conditions of the course after the snowfall and the forecasters’ predictions. Nonetheless, she also added that she does not see any hurdles in the progression of
the event so far. She further added that the track was raceable today and the only problem that she has to worry about is any major snowfall.
Meanwhile, Leopardstown received heavy rainfall on Monday evening and yet again on Tuesday morning and thus its prospects of hosting the Sunday meeting have significantly decreased. The meeting that was going to feature the opening Grade I Bord na Mona With
Nature Novice Chase is most likely to be abandoned on the grounds of heavy rainfall and unpredictable weather conditions.
