Horse Racing: Looking At Lucky to run against invincible Zenyatta

After the racehorse finished sixth in the first leg of the Triple Crown races, the Kentucky Derby, Lookin At Lucky’s trainer Bob Baffert said that it was not an easy job to keep the thoroughbred around the corner until the much anticipated Breeders’ Cup
Classic.
The talented colt went on to win the Haskell Invitational in August, after which he was caught up by fever due to which he could not attend his practise sessions and was thus pulled out of the most significant race run in the Saratoga Springs, Travers Stakes.
The racehorse then claimed a brilliant victory in the Indiana Derby to make his way to the $ 5 million event to be run at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Last year, the racehorse was the second place finisher in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile that took place at Santa
Anita.
Despite the many ups and downs in his racing career, Lookin At Lucky is a serious threat to Zenyatta’s dominance at the much awaited event, along with other champions including Quality Road and Blame. Lookin At Lucky and Zenyatta will be competing against
each other on the same track, where the former colt was denied the victory in the first jewel of the United States Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby.
On the other hand, Zenyatta will be running at Churchill for the first time and on dirt track the third time. The six years old, Kentucky bred filly has contended 17 of her 19 races on synthetic surface. However, her victories on the dirt in Arkansas are
considered to be of large margins (more than four lengths) as compared to those on the synthetic racetracks in California.
This racing season, Lookin At Lucky started six times, out of which he managed to win four of these, and three in a row. Meanwhile, Zenyatta took over the field in five career meets in 2010 racing season.
Zenyatta’s trainer John Sheriffs said, “She handled the track really well. In reality, she prefers a dirt surface to a synthetic surface.”
Pegram, Lookin At Lucky’s co-owner and Bob Baffert are also big fans of Zenyatta. Pegram said,
“When she gets to the sixteenth pole, it is like giving Michael Jordan the ball. She is going to get it done.”
“It is horse racing. You still got to get around there”, said Bob Baffert.
