Horse Racing: Ludlow abandons Thursday card due to snow
The officials of the Ludlow racecourse inspected the course today to decide weather the fixture on Thursday should go ahead or not. Since the temperatures in the area on Monday night went below the freezing temperature the track was found to be frozen at
some places and there were little signs of any improvement and thus the meeting was called off.
Talking to the correspondents about the conditions of the racecourse, the clerk of the course Bob Davies said on Tuesday afternoon that at some places the track was found to be frozen to about six inches. He further added that since the 24th of
November, there have only been two days that the track could be declared as being raceable. He said that there are absolutely no chances of any improvements in the conditions of the track till around Friday as some warm rain is expected to come from the south.
Apart from this abandoned meeting, the other scheduled meeting at this course has been scheduled to take place on Thursday, the 20th of January.
According to the weather check, the Southwell meeting is subject to an inspection that will take place at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. It has also been reported that there will be some snowfall in the area, however the officials are optimistic about the race
going ahead if the forecast does not change. The going has been revealed to be good to soft, soft in places, meanwhile the forecast has made the officials of the racecourse confident of the Sunday meeting taking place at Southwell.
As for the Huntingdon racecourse, the ground has been reported to be good to soft in some, and soft in other places. According to the forecast the temperatures in the region could drop below the freezing point up to about -2C on Monday night, and after
that warmer weather conditions are expected to be followed.
When the clerk of the Huntingdon racecourse was approached regarding the current weather conditions, he was reported as saying, “We’re fairly hopeful of racing. The forecasts show frost tonight, but we’re then frost free up to and after racing, with temperatures
on Thursday up to 5C. As things stand with the forecast, it’s all systems go.”
As the extreme weather conditions in the Britain and Ireland victimized almost all the horse racing events that were scheduled to take place in the last two months, the fans of the sport are expecting that no more changes will take place in the racing calendar
for the spring racing season.
