Horse Racing: Majestic Concorde claims the Paddy Power Chase
Yesterday was a good day for the horse racing fans and all those who are involved in the horse business in Leopardstown since some quality events took place on December 29, 2010. The Grade B Paddy Power Chase, also referred to as the Extended Handicap was
run over a distance of 3 miles.
The racehorse Majestic Concorde stole the show under his jockey Robbie McNamara in the Paddy Power Chase. Previously the colt had finished at third place in the Galway Plate event. Concorde faced tough competition in the form of Becauseicouldntsee but finally
prevailed to bring the title to his trainer Dermot Weld.
In a post race interview, the trainer of the victorious colt was reported as saying, “I think it’s my first runner in the race, and we came here for the prize-money, which is great. He had plenty of weight but he has loads of class too. He ran so well in
the Chester Cup and then in the Galway Plate. He didn’t get enough room at Ballybrit, and that’s why Robbie rode him so positively today.”
Talking about the colt’s future plans, the trainer added that he is still not certain about his next venture. He said that Majestic Concorde will probably be running in Chester in the summer racing season, nonetheless his owner’s consultation in this matter
was still underway. Majestic Concorde, owned by Dr Lambe, has four flat victories in his list of credentials. Moreover, the colt was also the marginal fourth place finisher in the Chester Cup that took place in July.
On the other hand, the racehorse from Willie Mullins’ in-form yard, Pomme Tiepy showed nearly the same performance as she did in the last few racing seasons. She grabbed the third in Paddy Power Chase under jockey Paul Townend. Meanwhile, the colt Agus A
Vic also came up with good pace and finished fourth.
Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase, another jumping racing event also took place in Leopardstown yesterday. In the second event Big Zeb gave a splendid performance as he won the event and confirmed his participation in the Champion Hurdle, due to take place this
March. Golden Silver was the first runner up in the Dial-A-Bet Chase. On the other hand, the Festival Hurdle meeting was claimed by the champion racehorse Hurricane Fly, his runner up being his arch rival Solwhit. Hurricane Fly will also be contending in the
Champion Hurdle.
