Horse Racing: McCoy has to have an x-ray after the Lexus fall
The 15-time champion jockey who became the first horseman to have claimed the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, Tony McCoy took a heavy fall today at the Grade I Lexus Chase that took place at Leopardstown.
The jockey’s left wrist was sore after he fell. Thus, he will be getting an x-ray done for his injured wrist on Wednesday.
The celebrated jockey had been quite unfortunate regarding the Leopardstown meeting. At first, he had a hard time travelling to the venue due to which he was not able to take the first two of his scheduled rides. Finally, when
he was riding the colt Kempes in the Lexus Chase, he suffered a major fall on the racecourse after which he abandoned his remaining rides in Leopardstown.
No hard work that he put in to make it to Leopardstown seemed worthwhile after the jockey finished the race in the second last spot and returned to the weighing room with a sore wrist.
On his return, Tony McCoy was provided with ice packs by the medical staff of the racecourse, so that he could have a comfortable flight back home. He is due to ride the racehorse Big Bucks, in the upcoming A.P. Wins Sports Personality
Long Walk Hurdle that has been scheduled to take place at Newbury tomorrow. Nonetheless, he has to be declared fit for his rides by his doctor before he takes up his rides.
According to his Twitter page, the champion jockey said after the Lexus Chase, “Had a fall in Lexus, bit of kicking but looking forward to tomorrow. Not been great day as flight was cancelled this morning.”
As Punchestowns will be making a comeback in his chasing career, he was going to be ridden by Tony McCoy. However, now, the jockey’s Wednesday rides in Newbury are subject to his medical check up. The hurdler had formerly planned
to partner with his trainer’s regular jockey Barry Geraghty. It has been revealed that Barry is committed to ride the winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, Big Zeb in the Grade I Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet at Leopardstown.
Fans and all those involved in the horse business will be extremely disappointed if the fancied jockey fails to ride Punchestowns and Big Bucks at Newbury tomorrow. The final decision about is participation is expected after he
gets x-rayed.
