Horse Racing: McCoy pleased after a session with Kauto Star
The celebrated jockey Tony McCoy was called by Paul Nicholls to ride his superstar racehorse Kauto Star in the William King George VI Chase for which he had his first schooling session with the champion colt this morning. His connections think that it was
important for the jockey to get acquainted with Kauto Star before the starting the mega event on Sunday.
The great racehorse Kauto Star was one of the eleven declarations for the Grade I contest that was scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. today will now be running under the jockey Tony McCoy after his initially planned rider Noel Fehily pulled out of the event
yesterday. According to Fehily, he does not feel fit for the great event and would not be able to forgive himself if he participates and then loses the race. Thus, he ruled himself out of the meeting.
After schooling the ten year old Paul Nicholls’ trainee, Tony McCoy was delighted as he wrote on his Twitter that he rode the superstar Kauto Star this morning and he has continuously been smiling because of the fact that he got to take a riding session
on such a remarkable racehorse.
On the other hand, the satisfied trainer was also pleased with the session that two champions had this morning as he wrote on his twitter, “AP and Kauto jumped 40 fences and did one canter up Ditcheat hill and got on to great.”
Initially, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Horseman was supposed to ride the racehorse Albertas Run for his trainer Jonjo O’Neil in the William Hill meeting. After it was announced that McCoy will now be riding Kauto Star, the trainer called for the
jockey Dougie Costello to ride Albertas Run.
Kauto Star’s odds were shortened by William Hill for the first time today since he is expected to become the first racehorse to claim the event for the fifth time. The event is still to the midday inspection that will take place on Friday after which the
final decision regarding the race will be announced. Meanwhile the trainer Nicky Henderson will be sending out two of his racehorses including Long Run and Riverside Theatre, whereas Nicholls will be represented by the hot favourite Kauto Star and The Nightingale
(who will be ridden by Sam Thomas).
The field will be completed by the colts Forpadydeplasterer, Sizing, Europe, Madison Du Berlais, Ollie Magern, Planet of Sound and Nacarat.
