Question:

Horse Racing Memorabilia question?

I have 2 unused tickets to the 1985 Breeders Cup that was held at Aqueduct, I believe this was the 2nd Breeders Cup, 22 years ago, they are in mint condition and still have the strings attached that came on them as well as the seat locations (grandstand sec. 4n, row l, seats 23&24).

Anyone know if they may be of any value or who I may contact to inquire? Thank you in advance.

  1. I collect horse racing memorabilia and it all varies depending on what's going on at the time.  In general unused admission tickets have less value than parimutuel tickets unless they are very old or are to events that had special significance.  Kentucky Derby tickets from Triple Crown winning years are more valuable than those of non-Triple Crown years ('73 '77 '78 are worth more than others).  Although the Breeders Cup is significant it doesn't seem carry collectible value.  First year programs would have the greatest value, then parimutuel tickets and admission tickets.  Second year and later are diminished greatly in value.  Someone might pay $5-10 for the pair.  Now if you were to match them up with a program, win tickets from each race, together they might have a greater value than the individual parts.

I have programs from all the last three Triple Crown winning years and they have a significant value because they are recognizable by horse and event.

Keep checking though because one never knows what might have value to someone else.

  2. I would not think they would be worth more than $5. Check on Ebay and see if anyone else is selling similar items and what bids they are getting. Programs and betting tickets would be worth more than admission tickets. Triple Crown race items are probably worth more than Breeder's Cup items.

  3. i don't know.....but i have the saddle cloth worn by chief crown in

the 1st breeders cup race, don Macbeth was the jockey and the

groom gave it to me as he was walking back through the tunnel

don Macbeth died a few years later of cancer, and i had donated

the saddle cloth a few years to the don Macbeth jockey fund, they

have returned it back in a glass enclosure.

  4. I have no idea but I starred your question and maybe one of my contacts knows something that would be helpful. I have dealt in other types of memorabilia, and the market is fairly unpredictable. Hang unto to them until you are satisfied that you have an informed answer.

    Ramjet probably would have known.

  5. IDK how much value they possess, but its gotta be a lot - mint condition unused tickets to the 2nd annual breeders cup? I mean, who in their right minds wouldt use tickets to the breeders cup, and why didnt they use them? (No offense to anyone in this part of my answer.).
