Horse Racing: Monet’s Garden homecoming to be an emotional event
According to media reports, Monet’s Garden continues swiftly on the road to recovery after remaining in a stable yet unchanging state for a very long period. He has made good progress in his valiant fight against what was said
to be a life-threatening infection of the hoof. Monet’s progress has prompted trainer Nicky Richards to think about bringing the horse back to Richards’s Greystoke yard - a homecoming that, without any doubt, will be a very emotional event.
Monet’s Garden owner, David Wesley Yates visited the superstar chaser this Friday at the Oaklands Veterinary Centre in Yarm, North Yorkshire, where his 13-year-old colt has been steadily gaining health, causing delight and relief
for the vets treating him at the centre.
Yates was reported as saying that he would not get carried away, but is still proud of Monet’s Garden and satisfied with the recovery made by him. Monet’s owner believes that if the horse is certainly going the right way they can
bring him back to Greystoke.
He further added that if Monet’s Garden maintains the steady progress he has shown this week, then he and Monet’s connections will check upon his health at the end of the week once more and will seriously consider bringing him
back to Greystoke.
“Wouldn’t that be fantastic?” Wesley Yates was quoted as enthusiastically exclaiming. “And what a homecoming he will get!” he added joyously.
Wesley went against the advice of two different vets, who believed that Monet’s Garden had to be put down when he was diagnosed with the possibly fatal hoof infection. He said that it had been his first visit to Monet’s in a few
weeks and the difference in the horse’s health for him was rather obvious and comforting.
Monet’s Garden caused great worry for his fans and connections when he was diagnosed with the hoof infection, which was contracted by him after winning the Old Roan Chase at Aintree in October 2010. Moreover, matters got complicated,
as he did not respond to antibiotics. However, soon after a reduction in his medication dose, Monet’s began to show positive response by stepping outside his box and from then on, the road to his recovery has been rather smooth.
