Horse Racing: Newcastle to inspect at 8am on Tuesday morning
The big freeze that has encompassed Britain and Ireland and victimized almost all the horse racing events scheduled to take place in the past two months, still continues to claim more meetings and fixtures. It has been reported
that officials of the Newcastle racecourse will carry out an inspection tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. for the fixture that is scheduled later in the day. This decision was made after some improvement was observed in the extreme weather conditions when the racecourse
was checked at 2 p.m. on Monday.
Even though the course is still frozen at places and the temperatures have not risen significantly, the clerk of the course, James Armstrong thinks that there are high prospects of the race taking place tomorrow. Nonetheless, the
forecast for tomorrow is somewhat in favour of the meeting, taking place.
Talking to the correspondents, James said that the temperatures of the area have not risen in accordance with the forecast that was predicted for today. He also said that the temperature that was recorded today was not more than
4C, but the weather conditions are improving.
James Armstrong further added that he is optimistic that the temperatures will remain well above the freezing point and will reach up to 5C tomorrow so there are high chances of the race, taking place.
On the other hand, officials of the Kelso racecourse have also called for an inspection tomorrow that will begin at 1 p.m. This inspection has been called to discuss the prospectus of the seven card race that is to take place on
Wednesday. The decision for another inspection was made after no improvement was observed in the conditions of the ground today.
When the acting clerk of the course, Harriet Graham, was approached by the correspondents to inquire about the prospects of the race, he was reported as saying, “The frost in the ground has not shifted as much as we would have
liked. I’m worried the milder weather won’t get here in time.”
He further went on to say that it rained all morning and now the course has 5mm of rainfall, which is of some benefit. Nonetheless, some parts of the track are badly frozen and thus the management expects some improvements ahead
of the Wednesday card.
Harriet also said, “The last two days have not been great for shifting the frost, it has only reached 2C during the day but we have been down to -2C overnight.”
