Jonjo O’Neill not clear about Backspin’s festival plan
The most flaunted and anticipated event this racing season is the upcoming Cheltenham Festival that will be taking place in March.
The fans of the sport and connections are equally excited to witness the thrill of the races that will be experienced during the festival.
Trainers have already started preparing their colts for the mega event and all of them are trying their best to make the best of their trainees. Where trainers have started registering their colts for the Festival, Jonjo O’Neill is still dubious about his
colt’s plan for the Cheltenham Festival that is now only six weeks away.
Backspin, who trains under the care of the famed trainer Jonjo O’Neill, did indeed disappoint his fans and all those involved in the horse business, when he only managed to finish the Grade II Novice Hurdle in the fourth place at the Cheltenham racecourse
last weekend.
Nonetheless, he did not show any signs of deteriorating health and is likely to make an appearance in the same racecourse next month.
The six year old champion is owned by JP McManus. Bookmakers and sponsors were more than interested to quote for the racehorse and he was the ante-post favourite for many of the novice events that have been scheduled for the Cheltenham Festival.
Sports analysts and all those involved in the horse business particularly started acknowledging the talent and potential of Backspin after he clinched victory in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle that was sponsored by sportingbet.com.
Nonetheless, he went on to disappoint his fans and connections when today (Tuesday), he finished the trial event of the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle 11 lengths behind the champion colt Bobs Worth.
After his performance in the trial event today, Backspin’s trainer O’Neill said that he was not yet clear about the plans of the racehorse for the prestigious festival. Talking to the correspondents about the whole scenario, the champion trainer was reported
as saying, “He’s entered in all the novice hurdles at Cheltenham and we will also make entries for the handicaps. At this moment in time I don’t know which he will go for, but he’s unlikely to run beforehand”.
On the other hand, the champion racehorse Somersby will be targeting the Champion Chase in the festival, as his trainer Knight has booked him for the aforementioned event.
Nonetheless, the sports critics and sponsors are of the view that there are better chances of the racehorse to clinch victory in the Ryanair Chase and the other event sponsored by sportingbet.com, but his trainer wants Somersby to stick to the 2 mile Champion
Chase.
