Horse Racing Payout Percentages?

Question

How much of the money taken in wagers is paid out to the bettors? Is the percentage the same with the standard bets (win, place, show) as the exotic bets (pick 3, exacta, etc)?

it is different.  When the race goes off there are odds. They change up until the last bet.  The more money bet on a horse the lower the odds, the less you make. There are odds for exactas, trifectas, etc., as well as win, place, show.  The pick 3 and pick 6 depends on the winning horses and their odds.

If a 2-1 horse wins then a $10 bet will get you $30 back.  profit $20.  In an exacta if the winner and place were 2-1 then you would get about the same.  If the winner was 2-1 and the place was 10-1 then it would pay much more.
