Horse Racing: Pletcher and Dominguez top the US money lists
As the year 2010 came to an end, there reviews and highlights of the most prominent races of the year along with the lists of the top earned horseman. For the fifth time, the Kentucky Derby winner Todd Pletcher dominated the lists of the top earned horsemen
in the form of the prize money. Since this was the fifth time that Pletcher headed the list, the news did not come as a surprise. Nonetheless, when Ramon Dominguez was announced as the top earned jockey of the year 2010 in USA, all those involved in the horse
business were delighted on the entry of a new name.
It was revealed that the Venezuelan rider clinched victory in a total of 396 races in the year 2010 and thus earned a prize money of $ 16.91 million, which is more than any of the other jockeys earned this year.
The racehorses that are included in his Grade I winners includes the name of the top turf performer Gio Ponti, Goldikova who was the runner up to the winner in the Breeders’ Cup Mile and the champion two years old colt Boys At Tosconova. However his most
prestigious victory was the one that his horse Haynesfield claimed in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
There was indeed a very tough competition between Dominguez and his compatriot jockey John Velazquez. The latter jockey has a prize money earning of $ 16.74 million for riding 239 winners in the yea 2010. He has thus made himself eligible to be considered
for the Eclipse Award as he proved to be amongst the North American Champions.
The figure revealed by the Equibase’s end-of-year statistics reveal that the trainer Todd Pletcher earned a total of $ 23.18 million by saddling 274 winners this year. Meanwhile his runner up, Steve Asmussen is way below his with a total of $ 16.31 million.
This is the sixth time that Asmussen is amongst the top trainers’ list, for saddling 506 winners this year. It has been reported that the trainer sent out a total of 2412 horses in the year 2010.
On the other hand, amongst the most prominent victories that were claimed by Pletcher’s trainees are the Kentucky Derby with the colt Super Saver and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with Uncle Mo.
WinStar Farm, the owner of Super Saver, dominated the owner’s list with a total of 46 wins and $ 5.18 million prize money.
