Horse Racing: Plumpton Racecourse calls for inspection, prospects appear bleak
The big freeze claimed almost all the racing events in Ireland and Britain during the last two months, and the fans of the sport and all those involved in the horse business were greatly disappointed by the postponement and cancellation of some of the most
anticipated horse racing events. Some of the racecourses rescheduled the meeting, while a minority staged some extra fixtures to make up for the lost ones. Now that the extreme weather conditions in the country got a little better, heavy rainfall has become
the cause of hindrance in the smooth progression of the racing calendar of this racing season.
It has been revealed that there was a heavy session of rainfall at the Plumpton racecourse after which the officials think that the situation is not very promising for the planned meeting at the racecourse. It has been announced that an inspection will be
carried out today at 8.30 a.m. to check the conditions of the racecourse and give the final decision about the meeting. Nonetheless, prior to the inspection the officials seem to pessimistic and think that the chances of the meeting getting a go ahead are
bleak.
According to the management of the racecourse, a total of 12 mm of rain has fallen on the track which has made it unfit for racing. The officials also told the correspondents that 9 mm of rainfall fell since 5.45 in the morning.
The clerk of the Plumpton racecourse, Mark Cornford was rather upset with the whole situation. When he was approached by the correspondents, he said that the scenario is horrible. He further added that he was really disturbed to a puddle of about 12 mm on
the track and said that it appeared that the chances of the meeting are now bleak.
Mark Cornford then announced that he will inspect the racecourse along with his team at 8.30 after which he will announce the final decision about the meeting. He also added that according to the weather forecast, they will have to cope with a further 6
mm of rainfall by the time they start the inspection, but the question here is that when is it going to stop raining.
According to the Met Office, there is prediction of the rainfall to continue throughout the morning. Moreover, there is very less chance that the rain will halt completely as there is also a forecast for fizzling in the afternoon.
Under these circumstances, the meeting is mostly likely to be called off, as the racecourse will not be appreciated by any participant of the race.
