Horse Racing: Preview Travers Stakes 2010
This year’s Travers will run at the Saratoga Race Course on the 28th of August. The horse race carries a purse of 1 million dollars and is considered to be one of the most important races in the athletic career of a race horse. The Travers that will run this Saturday is going to a mixture of race courses from diverse athletic backgrounds. One of the contenders will be running for the second time, while another wants to strive to win a Grade I race. The winner of the Kentucky Derby is not a part of the significant race.
The vice president and racing manager of WinStar Farm, Elliot Walden said he was very enthusiastic about the race because it is a very open race. The positions of the horses that will be running at the Travers Stakes were drawn on Wednesday.
The winner of the Kentucky Derby, Super Saver was struggling at the day when the positions for the race were being drawn. He finished in the 11th spot. The colt is the son of Maria’s Mon and has previously disappointed its fans and trainer Todd Pletcher in the Preakness and Haskell Invitational Stakes. The racehorse finished in the eighth place in the former race, while he was the fourth place finisher in the latter.
One of the horses who will be running in the Travers will be Admiral Alex, who is a 12-1 shot. The horse is owned and trained by Leon Blusiewicz. Leon is confident that Admiral Alex will upset the Travers field this year and make a remarkable victory.
The only consistent racehorse throughout this season, who has given brilliant performances consecutively, is First Dude. The horse did great in the entire four Grade I races that were run this season, and offered a tough competition to his competitors and proved itself as a resilient racehorse. The trainer Dale Romans and the owner Donald Dizney told the correspondents that First Dude missed the first place finish by just three quarters of a length in the Preakness Stakes and then the horse was the third place finish by only one length in the Belmont Stakes.
Romans also confessed that even if the horse does not win, yet gives a good performance, the trainer and the owner will still make him a part of the big races worth big purses. He further said that for him it the thing that matters in the end of the year is the number and consistency of races rather than just the number of races that the colt has won. The Travers will be First Dude’s fifth Grade I race this year.
The winner of the race in the Haskell Invitational was Lookin at Lucky, who was pulled out of the Travers because of his illness. The horse gave an outstanding performance in the Haskell Stakes. Trappe Shot was the runner-up to the winner in this particular race and was the 4-1 second choice on Wednesday morning. The racehorse will return to the Travers and will run for his owners Nicholas and Kitty Brady. Trappe Shot had a choice of running in either King Bishop Stakes or the Travers Stakes. The trainer of the horse Kiaran McLaughlin is expecting his biggest victory at the Travers this year if Trappe Shot gives a good performance. It is the trainer’s second horse who will be running for the Travers after Charitable Man competed in the Travers of 2009.
The Travers this year will run for the 141st time in the Saratoga Race Course. This particular meet is awaited by all the trainers and the horses impatiently. It is a Grade I Stakes and is one of the most favourite races of the experts. This year the Travers Stakes has gained much of the attention of the critics and the experts because of the combination of contenders that will be running in Saratoga.
