Horse Racing: Shinn and Robl lodge appeals, Hall and Cropp banned
The winning jockey of the Melbourne Cup, Blake Shinn has lodged an appeal against his disqualification which has summed up to be over a time period of 12 months. Shinn was disqualified by Racing NSW stewards on grounds of betting.
Moreover, the jockey is also appealing against the severity of his 3-month disqualification that has also been imposed by Racing NSW stewards on finding him guilty for some other offences.
The penalties have been imposed on Shinn after the inquiry that took place last month, and now he has been disqualified for a total time period of 15 months. This implies that his jockey would not be able to re-apply for his license in February 2012.
Shinn’s colleague Peter Robl, has also filed an appeal on his severity of suspension from the sport. His suspension has also resulted from the same inquiry. However, the dates for their hearing have not yet been declared.
Meanwhile, Nick Hall and Lisa Cropp have also been suspended on charges of careless riding aboard the colts Sulmita at Caulfield on Saturday. Nick Hall has been found guilty of interfering with Sazzana as the Loch M Fraser Handicap started. The jockey has
claimed nine victories in Melbourne this racing season.
Hall’s suspension will be in effect from Saturday midnight and he will be eligible to participate in the racing events from Monday, the 13th of December.
Rider Lisa Cropp and her apprentice Jarrod Fry were also suspended on Friday night on the grounds of riding carelessly in the same event at Moone Valley. Cropp has been withdrawn for 14 races, which include six metropolitan meetings. These events start from
midnight on Tuesday, while her ban will be lifted on Monday, the 20th of December. She has been charged for careless riding in the mid-range category, as per the conclusion of the stewards’ inquiry.
The winner of the Devils Party at Valley, Fry has also been banned for nine starts, out of which three were to take place in the city.
His suspension will also be in effect from midnight on Tuesday and will be free to ride from Thursday, the 16th of December. He has been suspended on the account of careless riding in the low-range category.
Cropp claimed 14 victories last month, meanwhile Fry was the winner of the Wodonga Cup aboard Jetconi last weekend.
